In celebration of his 54th death anniversary on 22 April 2002, the
University of the Philippines (UP) and the President Manuel A Roxas
Foundation (PMARF) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to institute
the Manuel A. Roxas Studies Program, which aims to increase
awareness of Roxas' legacy in politics and economics. The program
was spearheaded by the UP National College of Public Administration
and Governance under Dean Ma. Concepcion P. Alfiler and the College
of Social Sciences and Philosophy under Dean Cynthia B. Bautista.
On the same day, the University Librarian/Archivist, UP Diliman
Salvacion M. Arlante put up a Photo-memorabilia Exhibit on Roxas in
the Filipiniana Book Section. Two months later, she started
microfilming the President Manuel A. Roxas Papers owned by the
foundation with a copy to be deposited in the University Archives
and Records Depository. In July 2002, she proposed the project to
build "An Annotated Bibliography on President Manuel A. Roxas" in
book as well as in digital format, which will provide the research
base for the Manuel A. Roxas Program.
This bibliographic project has two parts. Part I is an annotated
bibliography consisting of works by Roxas - his books, speeches,
addresses, messages and statements - both published and unpublished.
Part II consists of works on or about Roxas compiled from various
sources in 9 local and 13 foreign libraries and institutions. A
subject index with annotations comprises the bibliography in print;
scanned images of selected materials have been added to the
bibliography in electronic format as a distinctive feature. In this
database available online, the works by Roxas ran up to 542 entries;
while the works on or about Roxas ran up to 143 entries.
