D. lVIonlee in p:irticular who broke the World's Record no Dec. 7, during lhe races held al Guagua Fiesla. He ropped five championships including the Free-for-all and l he 20 mile marathon race wilh his Patsy Ruth, Johnson :~2. In the Free-for-all and the marathon rares one of the competing boa ls (Crandall Comet Hull) was powered with an Evinrude 45 horse power and in spile of lhe fact that this is a Class F motor, it proved to have no chance whatsoever when matched against the speedy Sea Horse :12 clamped on the Sea Gull boat of Mr. Montee. ·with further reference to lhe races in which Mr. Montee broke the world's record, I am giving here my opinion and viewpoint as an outsider who wilnessed this thrilling episode in Motor boat History When Mr. B. Zafra Chairman of the Racing Committee of the Motor boat Association of the Philippines started the Class D race Malabon III (Johnson 32) got ahead of !he bunch by about two boat lengths followed by Guaga II (Evinrude 22) while Montee with his Palsy Ruth (Johnson :~2) was trailing behind. However bef <;>re they all covered ;~OO meters, the Patsy Ruth easily passed Guagua II and at lhe end of the first lap she was already leading lhe field by a 1·omforl ·able margin which was never threatened. On the contrary she gradually increased her lead so that when she reached the finish line atthe end of the fourth :rnd last lap Malabon III which obtained second place ,had barely covered one fourth of that lap. In the free-for-all race as soon as Mr. Zafra dipped the while flag. meaning "GO"!! the Palsy Ruth was about 100 ft. behind "Squibb" (Elto 45) which had a beautiful start, and in the twinkling of an eye she was way ahead of the rest by about lGO feet. Malabon III (Johnson :32) was speeding behind her, followed by Guagua II (Evinrnde 22). Just a few feet. back of the Patsy Ruth (Johnson 32) Malabon I (Sea Horse :~2) was trying to catch up, and when her driver gave her full speed ·she struck a wave that abruptly diviated her course. In the frantic effort of her driver to steady her, she began .to zig-zag hi lting the Palsy Ruth square on the slarboard side. just back of the· slep The force of the impact was so terrific that the stern of Malabon I hit the Patsy Ruth again at about the same place, breaking off this time one of the stabilirers. This damage would have sunk the Patsy Ruth quickly had Mr. Montee stopped running, but he kept IDEAL. N.EW WACKW ACK COURSE AT SAN. JUAN HEIGHTS Some years ago a few of their homes.
