Fulltext: MARSMAN TROPHY IS PRESENTED TO BAGUIO GOLD MINING COMPANY The Baguio Gold Mining Company was the winner of the Marsman Trophy for safety in the mines in the Baguio district during 1939; presentation of the trophy was made on May 1 at Burnham Park, the occasion being the second Miners Annual Safety Celebration, sponsored by the Mine Operators Safety Association of Baguio. Mr. Benj. S. Ohnick first vice-president of Marsing the accident frequency in the district. It was to stimulate this interest that Mr. Marsman donated the trophy, Mr. Ohnick stated; he extended congratulations to Baguio Gold for its excellent record for 1939. More than 12,000 miners, their families and friends turned out for the celebration, which was an all-day affair. Competition in the various events was keen and the teams showed plainly the results of careful instruction and long practice. Two of the Mars manmanaged mines had entries in t h e contests, I togon and Suyoc Consolidated. The Itogon drilling t 0 0 k team third man & Co., made the presentation o n behalf of Mr. Marsman, the donor, to W. T. Graham, general superintendent of Baguio Gold. In awarding the trophy, Mr. 0 h nick expressed the appreciation of the mine operators to the m!ners for their active interest in safety work, and in their cooperation in lowerThe Marsman Trophy, awarded for the first time on May 1 in Baguio. The winning mine, Baguio Gold, retains the Trophy for one year, and receives in addition a certificate of award for permanent possession.
